Volunteering

As a community-owned and run business and charity, Halifax Opportunities Trust thrives due to the involvement of local people. We welcome interest and involvement from all members of our community be that for employment, governance or volunteering. You can find out more about job opportunities with the Trust here, and discover more about our membership and who our current Trustees are here.

We also offer flexible volunteering opportunities to members of the public. Volunteering can be an excellent way to gain new skills, meet new people and give something back to your local community so whether you want to volunteer regularly, on an occasional or one-off basis or as part of a group of employees/friends, here’s what we have to offer:

Children’s Centres

If you are interested in working with children and families we have the following volunteer opportunities at our Children’s Centres across Calderdale:

  • Reception/Admin/Office support
  • Breast Feeding Peer Support
  • Childcare
  • Assisting at the groups and activities
  • Mailings and leaflet drops (on an occasional basis)
  • Helping out at events

For more information about volunteering at Children’s Centre please ring 01422 342552.

The Outback Garden

If you are interested in working outdoors in a beautiful garden setting we are always looking for volunteers for the Outback Community Garden which is based on Lightowler Road in King Cross, Halifax.

You can come along as an individual on a regular basis or we can host corporate volunteering for multiple employees! For more information please ring Sarah Waddington on 01422 342552.

Employment Support

Our Employment Support team are keen to meet people who would like to volunteer as work coaches at our job clubs. You would help local people with job searches, writing applications and CVs and planning ahead for interviews.

The Employment team also offer ad-hoc volunteering opportunities for individuals or groups to help with the events we run to support people find work.

Finally we are keen to hear from people who have set up and run small businesses who are willing to act as volunteer advisors when we have clients who are interested in becoming self-employed.

For more information about all of these volunteering opportunities please contact Lisa Connelly on 01422 347392.

Integration and Learning

Halifax Opportunities Trust delivers a number of ESOL (English as a Second or Other Language) programmes from our base at Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre.

If you think you are a positive role model and have an inspirational story to tell that may inspire our learners we’d love you to share your story with the our students. We are particularly interested to hear from women who have overcome disadvantage or preconceived expectations. For more information please contact Surraya Bibi on 01422 347392.
