Do you want to be part of positive change in Calderdale?

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Halifax Opportunities Trust to join our Board of Trustees and make a difference to hundreds of people’s lives throughout Calderdale.

Halifax Opportunities Trust is an award-winning charity dedicated to making vibrant, multi-cultural and self-sustaining communities across Calderdale and has being doing so for over 20 years. Our work includes running children’s centres and nurseries; helping community members find meaningful, quality work; and the provision of learning programmes that enable people to reach their full potential. In addition to our community activities we run two thriving social enterprise business centres that support small and micro enterprises in the borough. On a typical day we work with over 1,700 people – which is why many people refer to us as Calderdale’s best kept secret!

We are proud of the diversity and inclusivity of both our staff and trustees and are looking to recruit new members to the Board who can bring experience and/or expertise in the following areas:

  • Living or working in Park or Warley wards
  • Running a social enterprise or dealing with social finance
  • Property development, particularly housing development
  • Nutrition and/or food security
  • Charity or company law

As well as helping to govern of one of the largest charitable social enterprises in the region, our Trustees are given regular opportunities to further their skills and knowledge through training, onsite visits and attendance at national conferences and events. We are active members of the national membership body Locality and Trustees regularly take advantage of our membership benefits to further their professional skillset and their understanding of place-based community delivery.

Our Board currently meets 4 times a year with 2 sub-committees meeting between full board meetings to focus on finance and risk. We are seeking individuals who have both the time and desire to commit to attending our quarterly meetings and to join one of the sub-committees. Induction and training are provided for new trustees so they are fully equipped to take on the responsibility of being a charity trustee and company director for HOT. If you are ready to become part of our growing charity please contact Alison Haskins on 01422 399401 or email [email protected] for an informal discussion about the role.

Applications for the role of Trustee will close on Friday 14th August 2020. To find out more about what we do visit www.regen.org.uk
