In 2022 teams and individuals across Halifax Opportunities Trust won more awards, recognising the dedication of people at the Trust and the work of our projects on a local and regional level. Being shortlisted is an achievement in itself, but winning amongst other formidable people, organisations and charities is something we are immensely proud of.
In November 2022, people representing teams from across Halifax Opportunities Trust attended the Community Spirit Awards, an event that is organised and hosted by the Community Foundation for Calderdale. The ceremony seeks to recognise charities, community groups and organisations that operate throughout Calderdale and shine a light on their impact.
Great and Green
There was an overall theme of sustainability at the 2022 event and had introduced a new award of ‘Great and Green’, which The Outback Community Kitchen and Garden won! An excellent achievement, especially considering 2022 marked the Outback’s 10th anniversary.
Outstanding Individual
Another substantial achievement at the Community Spirit Awards was dedicated to Caren Parkinson, HOT’s Children and Families Lead. Caren won the Outstanding Individual Award for her dedication to early years and families throughout her career.
West Yorkshire High Sheriff
Caren and the Outback Team were also awarded with a West Yorkshire High Sheriff Certificate in 2022, alongside Surraya Bibi. This recognises their work in the community and dedication to local people.
Opportunities Event
In 2022, we also held our inaugural Opportunities Event at Elsie Whiteley Innovation Centre that showcased the Trust’s work in creating opportunities so people can take their next step. Whether this is in employment, learning, starting a business or volunteering, the event was a Trust-wide commitment to raising awareness of the holistic and multi-agency approach HOT takes so local people have a brighter future.
