Vote 100 – Celebrating in our Community

At Halifax Opportunities Trust we believe that empowering individuals to take part in civic life is fundamental to strengthening communities. As part of the Trust’s celebration of Vote 100, commemorating 100 years since some women in the UK won the right to vote, the team behind our ESOL and Intergration programmes organised march through Park Ward to celebrate the lives of 3 suffragettes from the area. The march included the unveiling of two blue Civic Trust plaques celebrating the achievements of suffragettes Adela Pankhurst and Dinah Connelly and flowers were laid to commemorate a third Halifax suffragette, Laura Wilson.

The march was attended by former Halifax MP, Alice Mahon and participants on the Migration Yorkshire ESOL programme and Big Lottery funded Hopeful Families programme as well as staff and Trustees from Halifax Opportunities Trust. The march concluded with a reception at Halifax Academy.
