Local Charity Launches Dedicated Apna Staying Well Hub To Run Wellbeing Activities And Events In Park Ward
Halifax Opportunities Trust (HOT) is pleased to announce the launch of Apna Staying Well Hub, a new community space which will be celebrated at a dedicated event on Wednesday 31st January, 2024 at Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre.
The launch event will bring together HOT participants, volunteers, staff and local partners to celebrate the expansion of HOT’s flagship site, Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre, and the new community space that welcomes Park ward residents to visit and connect.
Farrakh Hafiz, Halifax Opportunities Trust’s Community and Wellbeing Manager, comments: “The launch of the new Hub reflects the success of the groups and activities we have introduced as part of the Central Halifax Staying Well project. Working with local people to combat loneliness and isolation, we aim to create opportunities for a better life through a range of activities that foster social cohesion and create a sense of community.
“Our aspirations for the Hub are to ensure everyone in our local community has a welcoming space to visit so they can meet new people, get involved with local initiatives and gain the support they need.”
Apna means ‘ours, yours or everybody’s’ in many South Asian languages. The Hub is a welcoming space for all communities to visit and attend weekly events and activities at Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre, with a focus on building social connections, enhancing wellbeing and creating positive change. Activities that will take place at the centre include:
- Arts and Crafts Group
- Chat and Chai
- Knit and Natter
- Mindful Living
- Hearts Apart
- Yaadein Reminiscence Group
- Listening Sofa and Coffee Morning
The new space will also be available for other local charities and community groups to use and host events, further building community connections and strong collaborations. The Charity hopes to welcome local people from Park Ward and partners from across Calderdale to celebrate the launch with an event that showcases the great work of the Trust and the teams who deliver such impactful services.
